BSC Return to Indoor Prayer

Please read the following protocols for attending a socially-distanced minyan and answer the questions listed below.

When will Indoor Minyanim begin and at what times?

Indoor Minyanim at CAT will begin on Tuesday, June 23 with Shacharit. The registration form below will list the various options to select from. At this time, attendees must register for a full week of Minyanim (unless observing a yahrzeit) or Shabbat or both.

Who may attend Minyanim?

People who have pre-registered and meet ALL of the following conditions:

  1. Be completely free of any COVID-19 symptoms as described by the CDC, such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell.
  2. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 - should not register for a minyan until at least 11 days of the positive test or within 72 hours of having a fever or respiratory symptoms, whichever is longer. (Please note, anyone who has previously tested positive must also be cleared by a doctor for participation in a minyan).
  3. Over the age of Bar or Bat Mitzvah
  4. Anyone meeting any of the following criteria are strongly urged not to attend a Minyan.
  • 65 years and older
  • People with chronic lung disease, moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 40 or higher), diabetes, chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis, liver disease, or immunocompromised. (Many conditions can cause a person to be immunocompromised, including cancer treatment, smoking, bone marrow or organ transplantation, immune deficiencies, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS, and prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune weakening medications)
  • Anyone living with someone who meets the above criteria is strongly urged not to attend a Minyan as well.
How will Minyanim be conducted?
  1. There will be 50 or fewer people at each minyan. Multiple people from the same family should go to the same minyan and should not split up and go to two Minyanim.
  2. Anyone with a chiyuv will take precedence.
  3. Men and women alike may register. The committee will ensure that there are at least ten men at each Minyan.
  4. Minyanim will take place indoors on the shul premises.
  5. A “Minyan Captain” will be assigned as the coordinator of each Minyan to ensure that all of the protocols are kept. This person will communicate with the members of the group with any updates.
  6. Records will be kept of who was at each Minyan by the Minyan Captain. All attendees must consistently attend the same Minyan every time. One may not switch from one Minyan to another. It is vital that all adhere to this so that we can perform contact tracing should a Minyan attendee test positive.
  7. Everyone at every minyan must wear a mask at all times. If the chazan needs to remove his mask, he may do so if he is facing away from everyone else.
  8. Locations for each attendee at the Minyan will be clearly delineated and distanced by at least 6 feet.
  9. You must bring your own Siddurim and Chumashim. Do not pass around tzedakah receptacles.
  10. Bathroom usage is limited to the Family Bathroom.
  11. In an effort to minimize risk as much as possible, all Minyanim are advised to be conducted expediently.
  12. For the time being, only the Baal Koreh will handle the Sefer Torah, do Hagbah, and get all the Aliyot.
  13. There must be no congregating before, after, or during davening.
  14. No food may be served at Minyanim.
  15. These protocols are designed to maintain the utmost safety as we return to Tefilah B’tzibur. They will only work if we all abide by them carefully. The protocols will be subject to change as the situation progresses and as we learn more information. They will be evaluated on a weekly basis to ensure their effectiveness.
