CAT Dinner 2020 Honorees


 

Nancy & Norris Nissim, Guests of Honor

Nancy and Norris have lived in Englewood since 1995, where they have raised their two children, Albert and Benjamin.  Norris is the General Counsel at Luxor Capital Group, LP, an investment management firm.  Over the years he has participated in community life through a range of roles at Ahavath Torah and the Benaroya Sephardic Center, including as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Benaroya Sephardic Center, Chair of the Annual Dinner Campaign, Chair of the Yom Kippur Appeal and Chair of the Benaroya Sephardic Center Rabbinic Search Committee.  Nancy has been actively involved in Jewish life in Englewood as well, giving her time to volunteer at Moriah and Ahavath Torah.  They appreciate that they have been able to spend nearly all of their married life in the Englewood community and look forward to being part of its continued growth and success.

 


 

Beth & Nat Lipschitz, Young Leadership Award

Beth and Nat moved to Englewood in 2011, and are proud parents of Evie, Hannah, and Andrew. Beth grew up in Englewood and is a graduate of Moriah, Frisch, Columbia College ('02) and NYU Stern School of Business ('08). Beth works in Sales Strategy at Unilever. Beth has served as Sisterhood Co-President, Co-chair of the Wine & Scotch Event, and currently co-chairs the Youth Committee. Nat grew up in Oceanside NY and is a graduate of MTA ('98), and attended Yeshivat Hakotel before graduating from Yeshiva University in 2003. Nat is a financial planner at Elite Financial Solutions, a financial advisory firm he leads with his father specializing in retirement income. Nat is currently a member of the CAT Board of Trustees, chairs the Catering Committee, and serves as a CSS Team Member.

 

 


 

Eileen & Rabbi Norman Gorlyn, Hakarat HaTov Award

Eileen and Norman have lived in Englewood for 47 years.  They have two children, Marianne (married to David Goldberg) and Adam (married to Andrea Goldstein) and three grandchildren. Originally from Brooklyn, Eileen is a graduate of Brooklyn College and holds a Master’s Degree in French.  Recently retired, Eileen worked for over 31 years as part of the Ahavath Torah office staff and Assistant to Rabbi Shmuel Goldin.   She played an active role in Sisterhood.  Eileen is now part of Ahavath Torah’s Dor L’Dor Committee and co-Chairperson of CAT’s yearly Book of Remembrance. She also was on the board of the Englewood Chapter of AMIT; volunteered at the Moriah School Library; was part of the first committee that developed after school programming at Moriah; and was a co-President of the Frisch Parents Association. For over 30 years, Eileen has worked for The Jewish Youth Encounter Program. Norman, having grown up in Brooklyn and Fort Lee NJ, is a graduate of Yeshiva University, received Semicha from RIETS, and holds an MBA degree from Baruch College (CCNY). He served as Treasurer of the New York State Housing Finance Agency and the New York State Medical Care Facilities Agency for many years.  After retirement, Norman was District Director for AARP in tax preparation; gave time to the Englewood Reads program; and delivered meals to homebound through the Meals on Wheels program of the Jewish Family Service. Norman has been blowing Shofar for the Hashkama Minyan during Rosh Hashana and for other Minyanim during Chodesh Elul for almost 40 years.  He has attended the evening Englewood Daf Yomi group for over 30 years and still serves as a Maggid Shiur. Eileen and Norman are proud to be part of this vibrant synagogue and community and are blessed with many wonderful friendships.
